Respite Funding
- Description
Government funded program offering types of respite that can give families a break from caregiving
In and Out-of-Home Respite:
- for families of children with multiple special needs
- families can receive up to seven days of respite per year, provided either in or in a location other than own home
Enhanced respite funding:
- paid to families caring for a child who is medically fragile and/or depends on a technological device and needs care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- grant is paid in addition to other respite services
- families may be eligible for up to $4,130 per child per year (2024 fiscal year)
Special Services at Home Program
- helps families taking care of a child with a developmental and/or physical disability
- provides funding to buy things and services that help parents with caring for their child
Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities Program
- provides financial support for low-income to moderate-income families to help with the cost of caring for children with severe disabilities, including respite
- Eligibility
- Out-of-Home Respite * The child must:
* be under 18 years
* have multiple special needs because of a physical or developmental disability
* live at home and need care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and, without respite out-of-home respite, there's a real possibility that: * the child would require long-term residential placement * the child's family is at risk of breakdown, or
* there's a risk that the child could harm himself or others
Enhanced respite funding * The child is:
* under 18 years
* lives at home
* needs intensive care and constant monitoring on a 24-hour basis - Application Process
