Description

Free income tax clinic for low-income individuals and families

  • trained volunteers prepare and file income tax returns
  • part of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
Eligibility
General public/All persons who meet the following income criteria:
Income must not exceed:
  • $40,000 for a single person
  • $55,000 for two persons
  • $60,000 for three persons
  • $65,000 for four persons
  • $70,000 for five persons
  • An additional $5,000 is added to the above for each additional person

Interest income must not exceed $1,200

Volunteers only complete returns for simple tax situations. A tax situation is simple if an individual has no income or if their income comes from these sources:
  • employment
  • pension
  • benefits, such as Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, disability insurance, employment insurance, and social assistance
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)
  • scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, or grants
  • interest (under $1,200)

Volunteers are not expected to answer complex tax questions. If a taxpayer needs information that is beyond the volunteer's expertise, they can find more information on the website or contact the Canada Revenue Agency

Application Process
  • In-person and drop-off service available (appointments required)
  • Call 613-623-7981 ext 108 to make an appointment
  • Pick up of completed returns will also be by appointment only, and must be picked up by May 1
  • Prepares returns for current and prior years
Documents Required
  • last year's Notice of Assessment (NOA) or income tax return

  • rent receipts/property tax information

  • Senior Property Tax Rebate confirmation letter

  • medical receipts

  • charitable donation receipts

  • T4A, Statement of Pension, Retirement, Annuity, and other Income

  • T4E, Statement of Employment Income and Benefits

  • T5007, Statement of Benefits

  • T5, Statement of Investment Income

  • Seniors T4A (OAS), Statement of Old Age Security

  • T4A(P), Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits

  • T4RSP, Statement of RRSP Income

  • T4RIF, Statement of Income from a Registered Retirement Income Fund
