Description
A publically funded agency of the Government of Ontario which provides a continuum of high quality services to low income Ontarians in the areas of criminal law, family, child protection law, refugee law and mental health law. Services include web-based materials, telephone advice service, in-court duty counsel and advice service, staff lawyer service and certificate coverage. The large majority of lawyers in Hamilton accept Legal Aid Certificates.

Depending upon the service, clients must meet a financial and legal eligibility test

Application Process
Attend the Legal Aid office in person or telephone and staff will assist in determining whether the type of problem is covered by legal aid
* Applications will not be completed until all financial information is received (i.e. cheque stubs; an up-to-date bank book(s) or statements; a receipt for rent etc.
