Description
Financial and employment assistance for people in temporary financial need to help pay for basic needs such as:
  • food
  • housing costs
  • certain furniture such as beds, cribs, high chairs and a stove or fridge where not provided by landlord
  • prescription drugs
Eligibility
Individuals of 16 years and older
* Eligibility is based on family size, income, assets and housing costs
Application Process
Applications for Ontario Works are now completed by the province.
There are two ways to apply: Emergency Assistance:
  • Applications for emergency assistance are completed online or over the phone.
  • Online: Apply at ontario.ca/EmergencyAssistance
  • Phone: Call 3-1-1 to apply and select 1 for English, 4 for Social Services to be assessed.

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) 1-800-808-2268 - automated information and payment details, payment history, file status, etc.
Sign up for MyBenefits at mybenefits.mcss.gov.on.ca/auth/login to report changes or get information about your Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program case.
