Trades and Apprenticeship and Pre-apprenticeship Programs


Description
Conestoga offers pathways into trades and apprenticeship through a variety of post-secondary certificate and diploma options; programs provide training in a specific trade to help prepare students for apprenticeship.

Pre-Apprenticeship programs:
  • include academic upgrading for candidates who do not possess Grade 12 or equivalent (academic entry level in most trades)
  • offer introductory theoretical and practical training, Level 1 in-school apprenticeship training in a specific trade and a work placement component to gain hands-on experience
  • hours spent in pre-apprenticeship training might be credited towards overall apprenticeship training if the individual decides to sign on as an apprentice, at employers' (sponsor's) discretion
Eligibility

  • OSSD, GED or equivalent

  • A resident of, and able to work in Ontario

  • Proficient in English language

Application Process
For Pre-Apprenticeship Program:
  • applicants are required to attend a program information session
  • applicants will be tested in Mathematics, Mechanical Reasoning and English; must complete a pre-apprenticeship application form
  • selected applicants who complete the required tests will be invited to a personal interview
  • acceptance is based on a combination of the test results and the personal interview

Note: regular, trade related, post secondary certificate and diploma programs do charge tuition and traditional apprenticeship trade schooling does include a fee.
