Ottawa Police Service - Professional Standards Unit
- Description
Section that investigates and facilitates complaints directed to the Ottawa Police Service, including damage or loss of property due to police actions
Holds a formal process to resolve less serious complaints through mediation, facilitated discussions, education, training and policy reviews.

- Application Process
- For claims related to property damage, write a letter and send it by mail, email, or fax. The letter must contain:
* date of claim or notification
* name, address and telephone number of the person making the claim
* date, approximate time, location and police report number (if known) of the incident giving rise to the claim
* apparent cause of the loss or damage incurred (to the extent it is known)
* nature of damage incurred (i.e. personal injury, property damage, loss or property, expenses incurred etc.)
* a receipt or invoice for damage incurred
Public complaints about misconduct of police officers should be sent through the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency (LECA) on their website - Documents Required
