- Description
- Compensates eligible workers for unpaid wages, vacation, severance and termination pay they are owed when their employer declares bankruptcy or becomes subject to a receivership under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
- Provides a maximum compensation payment of the equivalent of four weeks of insurable Employment Insurance (EI) earnings, minus amounts prescribed by regulations
- Delivered by Service Canada on behalf of the Labour Program
- Eligibility
- Individuals whose employment has ended, whose former employer has filed for bankruptcy or is subject to a receivership, and who are owed wages, vacation pay, termination or severance pay
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)

- Application Process
- Apply to this program only after a copy of the information from the trustee or receiver appointed in the employer's bankruptcy/receivership has been received
- Submit a proof of claim to the trustee/receiver
- Apply online or obtain a paper application from the Service Canada Centre
Applications must be submitted to Service Canada within 56 days of either the later of:- the date of bankruptcy/receivership;
- the date that employment ended due to termination, resignation, retirement or expiry of term; or
- the date on which the receiver terminated employment
- Apply to this program only after a copy of the information from the trustee or receiver appointed in the employer's bankruptcy/receivership has been received
