Provides crisis intervention and referrals to victims/survivors of crime and persons involved in tragic circumstances. In a partnership with Police Officers, Risk Navigators provide service to victims/survivors through the provision of crisis intervention, risk and needs assessment, and referral to appropriate community resources.

• For victims/survivors of Intimate Partner Disputes where no criminal charges have been laid
• Risk Navigators are responsible for :
• Reviewing all Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) disputes
• Reaching out to victims/survivors to discuss support services, reporting options, and the criminal justice process
• Collaborating with victims/survivors to develop a violence and trauma-centered safety plan
• Working with internal and external partners to implement safety planning protocols to prevent future violence
• Responding to alerts from Patrol indicating ongoing disputes or escalating violence
• Educating stakeholders on IPV-related risks and best practices
• Coordinating with victims/survivors and service providers when necessary
• The unit works in partnership with Ottawa Victim Services (OVS), a community-based non-profit organization that delivers on-scene response and follow-up services to victims/survivors of crime.
