- Description
Provides crisis intervention and referrals to victims/survivors of crime and persons involved in tragic circumstances. In a partnership with Police Officers, Risk Navigators provide service to victims/survivors through the provision of crisis intervention, risk and needs assessment, and referral to appropriate community resources.
- For victims/survivors of Intimate Partner Disputes where no criminal charges have been laid
- Risk Navigators are responsible for :
- Reviewing all Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) disputes
- Reaching out to victims/survivors to discuss support services, reporting options, and the criminal justice process
- Collaborating with victims/survivors to develop a violence and trauma-centered safety plan
- Working with internal and external partners to implement safety planning protocols to prevent future violence
- Responding to alerts from Patrol indicating ongoing disputes or escalating violence
- Educating stakeholders on IPV-related risks and best practices
- Coordinating with victims/survivors and service providers when necessary
- The unit works in partnership with Ottawa Victim Services (OVS), a community-based non-profit organization that delivers on-scene response and follow-up services to victims/survivors of crime.

- Services can be accessed through self-referral by calling or emailing directly. Services can also be accessed by a referral placed by Police Officers or community agencies.
